WEEKLY FIND: A NEW PATEK PHILIPPE CHRONOGRAPH

From jewelry and accessories to restaurants and events, we shine a spotlight on one new thing that catches our attention each week.

The appeal of owning a Patek Philippe watch is timeless, evidenced by its long history of manufacturing timepieces that continue to be highly coveted today for both their meticulously designed form and impressive functions. New to the watchmaker’s offerings is the Patek Philippe Ref. 5740/1G-001, the first model in the Nautilus collection to possess a grand complication.

Though the wristwatch appears to be free of bells and whistles—there are no sparkling diamonds on this one, only a white gold bracelet and the luminous blue dial—it certainly can’t be called ordinary. Equipped with the well-regarded self-winding caliber 240 Q movement, the Ref. 5740/1G-001 is one of Patek Philippe’s sleekest perpetual calendar models, its case measuring only 8.42 millimeters tall. Its most important feature, however, is its perpetual calendar mechanism, “perhaps the most emblematic of complications at Patek Philippe,” according to the watch savant Nick Foulkes, who authored the official biography of the watchmaker.
